If you have never been to the Nanaga Farm Stall………….you simply HAVE to stop and enjoy the “Nanaga Experience”…….as the old saying goes - you don’t know what you are missing until you have had it!!
And if you are familiar with Nanaga, or a regular visitor, then you already know of the treasure trove of delights behind the impressive and massive front door.
The building nestles comfortably between rolling hills, and is conveniently located at the intersection of three main routes, namely the N2, R10 and R72.
The convergence of these roads creates a clover leaf shape when viewed from the air, and is aptly named the Clover Leaf, and lies 50km from Port Elizabeth, the Eastern Cape’s largest city.
The Eastern Cape is known for its various tourist attractions, including the magnificent Addo Elephant Park and world famous Shamwari Game Reserve – both within 20kms of four farm stall.
The true essence of country living, the fresh, clean air, the earthy and enchanting ambience heavily laced with homely familiarity is what Nanaga is all about. Situated on a working dairy farm brings another dimension to the mix, one can sit casually on the verandah and gaze upon the contented cows peacefully grazing in the pastures.

This iconic landmark is an institution to travelers, tourists and locals. Their hand made pies are literally known throughout the country and are quite delicious and delectable. For the first-timer to the farm stall, there is a wonderful taste adventure awaiting you………..whether it is a pie in the car on the run, or in the courtyard, or in the restaurant at your leisure, the explosion that will take place in your mouth will have you coming back for more.
Then there is the “roosterkoek” which are equally as famous as the pies! This is a roll, or bread, cooked on a open burner, in the true old fashioned manner of our forefathers. Rustic and individual in shape, each one is hand made, and utterly mouth watering. There are many delightful fillings to choose from, but served warm, with butter and jam renders a matchless taste sensation.
Add to this all the other options available, such as the Sunday lunches, the breakfasts, the huge selection of freshly baked treats, sweets and breads. The gift shop offers a wide range of items for all ages. There are rows and rows of pickles, jams and relishes, a small butchery, farm biltong (dried meat with spices) and so much more. We also cater for any function, as well as weddings.
Just like Pandora’s Box – the Nanaga Farm Stall offers so many selective choices. We can only invite you to visit us, and live the “Nanaga experience” first hand!!

I recently visited South Africa from the United States and on my way out visited the Nanaga Farm Stall for breakfast and picked up a few of the bacon and cheese pies to go. I was blown away. In the US we do not have meat pies, we have apple, peach or other fruit pies. So this was my first experience with a meat pie and it was awesome. The only problem I have is that I cant find meat pies anywhere in the US. I cant even really find recipes for them. I'm sure if I look long enough I'll find a european style restaurant with them but they might not have a bacon cheese pie. If you could please share your recipe for it I would be very happy. I would keep it secret I promise.
Thanks in advance,
Parker Hicks
What the Americans are missing out on!
